After seeing their nine-game winning streak come to an end with an 89-75 loss in Game 1 of the Playoff Final, Valencia Basket’s first men's team will look to regain their rhythm and confidence in hopes of earning a better result in the second game of the series. This next matchup will also be held at the same venue (Sunday 22, 18:30h, Movistar Arena, Movistarplus+, Movistar Deportes), where Valencia has lost on its last six visits. Their challenge: to break Real Madrid’s 30-game home winning streak in domestic competition, a run that has lasted more than 14 months.
This series pits the league’s most potent offense against its strongest defense, and in the opening game, it was Real Madrid’s defensive power that prevailed—disrupting Valencia’s usual playing style and significantly lowering their shooting accuracy.
Historically, teams that lose the first game of the Finals on the road have less than a ten percent chance of ultimately lifting the trophy. However, one of the rare exceptions to that trend was Valencia Basket’s Liga Endesa title win in the 2016-17 season. In fact, the two times Valencia has managed to win a playoff game at Real Madrid’s home court (2014-15 and 2016-17), those victories came in the second game of the series.
Following the technical decisions to leave out Jovic and Brimah in Game 1, Valencia Basket enters this second contest with 14 players available, with only one long-term absentee: injured center Ethan Happ.
